I've been around the world many years living abroad (including Europe) and this is one of the best maintained volunteer museums and most of the "professional' museums I've been privileged to visit in my 60+ years!
What a surprise. Once inside you are transported to the everyday life of the past. I was told the museum was a culmination of an entire block. Indeed , you walk through a maze of rooms like small homes each vignettes of various facets of 1880-1920 approximately. Some rare and unique items from tiny fossils to fire trucks.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved this museum! Very diverse items covering ancient artifacts to nowadays. Cars, fire engines, rocks, minerals, geodes, dolls, ancient and modern pottery and weapons, & much more than I can list!
BEST: IT'S FREE! HOWEVER PLEASE DONATE. This is not a wealthy community.
Surprisingly fun museum with an eclectic collection of historical New Mexico. Important collection of Mimbres pottery. Worth a stop, Deming has some good Mexican restaurants just down the street.
Here's a teaser photo, looks like it should be in a Jules Verne movie.
Get to know what New Mexico life was like approximately a hundred years ago. Plan on a couple hours to really appreciate this.
Something for everyone: delicate china ware, military memorabilia and tons of geodes.
Fellow steampunkers you will love this place. Hint: an old hearse and contraptions.
I enjoyed visiting this museum of Southwest American Life. There are many interesting collections of many different objects. This is obviously the pride of an American town.
Staffed by volunteers and entrance fee is by donation.
Not a place for children unless they just enjoy looking and reading. Don't take toddlers: there are realistic and delicate settings. Hint: a fully set dining table.
The displays are rustic to super secure depending on the artifacts. I would not hesitate to take anyone there. There is so much variety one would have to have been raised under a rock to not find anything interesting!
Great museum. So much larger than it appears. Don't miss it!
